Amy was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 1 August 2016 and undertook her restricted practice period at Coulson Legal between August 2016 and September 2018.   Amy’s strong academic background, combined with her tenacious and efficient approach to costs issues, places Amy in a dominant position as a costs litigator in Western Australia.

Amy completed her Bachelor of Laws with Honours at Murdoch University in November 2015, receiving First Class Honours for her Thesis on uplift fees in Australia.  In 2016, she received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Academic Excellence at Murdoch University. The prestigious award is presented to students who are placed in the top 2% of graduates and who have achieved a minimum of 15 credit points of High Distinction within the review period. Given her high academic achievements, she has continued a close relationship with Murdoch University by tutoring in various areas of law including Contract Law, Administrative Law and Legal Research, and founded, together with Dr Stephen Shaw, the Murdoch School of Law’s Costs Unit.  Amy continues to be one of the principal lecturers in the Costs Unit, which has run annually as an intensive elective unit since 2016. 

Amy is extremely passionate about costs and educating both practitioners and law students on the importance of costs in practice. Amy has had papers published, and regularly lectures on costs issues at various Continuing Professional Development Seminars in Western Australia, including on behalf of the Law Society of Western Australia and Legalwise Seminars. In addition, Amy is a member of the Law Society of Western Australia, the Women Lawyers Association of WA (WLWA), the Anglo-Australasian Lawyers Society and has been an active member of the Law Society’s Costs Committee since 2016.

In addition to her LLB studies at Murdoch University, Amy has also completed part of a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice from Griffith University (2012). During her studies she gained significant work experience as a legal research clerk for Senior Counsel and at various law firms. 

Amy joined Coulson Legal in July 2015 and works on difficult legal matters in all jurisdictions. Amy has advised and represented both law practices and clients in numerous solicitor/client and party/party costs matters in the Magistrates Court, District Court and Supreme Court of Western Australia, and on party/party matters in the Federal Court of Australia.In addition, Amy has also advised on and represented parties in relation to costs in both domestic and significant International Arbitrations.

When Amy is not dedicated to study or work, she enjoys camping and boating with her family. In 2016, she placed 2nd in the Avon Descent.
